Yes, I also make furniture. 
These tables was made for my furniture design class this past semester.
There is heavy influence from Ligne Roset furniture. I stumbled into their store and fell in love with one of their tables.
I recreated it with my own twist. I see inspiration from an avocado fruit. I cut out and beveled holes into each layer and used the remaining pieces to make a miniature side table. The Mini table can fit inside the Main coffee table and has dips in the shape that acts as a handle. The sharp beveling was done to emphasize the birch plywood layers. The legs are cut Aluminum rods that I bought at a local hardware store that were then polished and installed.
Since Birch-wood is very lightly colored, I stained the table ebony to bring out the birch grain and sealed with two layers of satin polyurethane.
The top image is the coffee table side view. The image under that is the mini table. The image to the right is take from above to show you the layers. The background image is a close up detail of the beveled holes.

Overall Vision Originality Technique ImpactThe Inspiration for this table is certainly exquisite. the natural feeling that relates the shape of the table to the fruit is a very pleasant one, The lines on the edge of the shape are very smooth and it makes me wish that i knew more about wood work to see all the things that you did to make this the way it is.
The Silver (i'm guessing aluminum) Supports being Tiered differently on each level along with the tiers themselves give this a very Modern look and make this a very beautiful and functional peice of art.
The only thing i would have done different (this is personal Opinion only) I would have used a more colorful wood finish or a more colorful type of wood. Maybe the pictures don't portray the color well but it looks a little dull to me. But again. Personal Opinion. I love this and i really would like one for my Apartment.
